6 IDEAS FOR THE HOLIDAY SEASON

The holiday season. All the hustle and bustle to get everything done in time for Christmas. Sometimes we can get so caught up in everything that it can be challenging to make sure that we are taking the time to enjoy the little things that are really what makes this holiday a special one.

Here is a list a 6 simple ideas for you to make the most out of this holiday season with your littles!

DECORATE THE TREE TOGETHER

Decorating the Christmas tree is one of those things that always sounds like it will be so much fun, right? But then the kids want to do everything themselves and it can turn it into a slightly stressful activity as parents, am I right?

Well, this is one of those things that we need to learn to just let go and let live. I have learned to let the girls do as much or as little of the tree decorating as they want. I use the extra time I have to take more pictures and videos of them enjoying themselves and laughing and giggling and figuring out the best placement for every ornament. And they love it! Sure, the tree may not look “picture perfect”, but it’s perfect in our eyes and the girls are always so proud of themselves when we are done. Isn’t that what’s important?

BAKE COOKIES

One of my girls’ favorite holiday tradition is to bake sugar cookies and make icing and let them decorate the cookies however they want to. We like to make the cookie from scratch. The kids really love these cookie cutters that are so fun for the holidays! We always make the icing from scratch, too. They love to add way too much icing, a ton of sprinkles and then they enjoy eating their creations!

Decorating cookies is a fun and easy way to add some holiday cheer with the kiddos!

PLAY CHRISTMAS MUSIC

Music can uplift your mood on even the worst of days that you are having. Blast some Christmas music and have an impromptu dance party. Both you and your kids are bound to have a blast jamming out to some Christmas tunes!

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

Without fail, kids love to look at Christmas lights. Maybe you have a neighborhood that loves to go all out with their lights or maybe a nearby church or rec center puts on a light show. This is a fun (and free) way to enjoy the holiday season as a family!

GINGERBREAD HOUSE

Building and decorating a gingerbread house is a must do during the holidays! Some people are really ambitious and they make the gingerbread themselves, but I choose to just buy a store bought kit like this one for the girls to build and decorate.

ELF ON THE SHELF

I know that this is a controversial tradition to start, but I can tell you from personal experience, that it adds a little extra joy and excitement to the holidays around here! The girls love waking up every morning to see where Snowflake (their Elf) has moved to. They love to write her notes and they make sure to be extra good because they know that Snowflake is watching and reporting back to Santa.

While this can be a time consuming and tiring to remember to move the Elf every night after the kids are in bed, but it can also be really fun to come up with new poses. And the best part is to see the excitement on your child’s face when they find their Elf!

Hopefully these ideas will make your holiday season a little more festive!
