It’s that time of year again – the end of the school year.
Are you ready for it?
Does this time of year stress you out or do you have it all under control? I think for most, this time of year can be hard on our schedules, especially for those of us that are working parents. It seems like as soon as you get one thing in your calendar and figured out all the logistics to it, something else pops up the next week. It constantly keeps you on your toes and adding more kids to the mix only makes it crazier!
Isabella has plays and Open Houses and field trips and 100-day parties at school, all of which require some sort of parent involvement. Not to mention the PTA obligations and the play dates with friends. And let’s not forget about that precious family time, too! It is a lot to manage and not forget anything (thank you Mom Brain for that one!).
I have developed a system to keep everyone’s schedules straight and to make sure that we don’t miss anything important. Anything that comes to me via email does directly into my phone calendar so that I know I have an alert set for it. Things that come home in my daughter’s backpack immediately get put into my planner – yep, I’m old school like that and still use a physical planner! I use it to track all the important dates, our family finances, meal planning and anything else that I don’t want to forget. Writing it down really helps me to remember it!
Another thing that has really helped me is to have what has now become known as a “Family Command Center”. I have one of those big whiteboard calendars and color coded dry erase markers, a different color for each member of the family. I have it in the kitchen so that everyone can see it and know what it is coming up. It has really helped in keeping everyone on track with appointments and such.
Sometimes the simplest solutions are the ones that end up helping the most. This solution works for our family. What works for yours?
